Education reform turning schools into cradles of inventors
The Second Great Inventors Festival of Middle and Primary Schools in Luohu District started at the Cuiyuan Junior Middle School on Nov. 10.
With the theme of “integration and innovation”, the event, jointly hosted by the Luohu district education bureau, the Luohu district science and technology bureau, the Luohu District Committee of the Communist Youth League and the Luohu Association for Science and Technology, has attracted more than 6,000 participants from over 80 local schools competing at four parallel venues. It will last to the end of November.
Seven schools from Luohu are receiving the honorary title of “innovation education base” for their achievements.
The festival is one of five projects being undertaken as part of Luohu’s reform of its education system, with the objective of developing student innovative ability and prompting teachers to break out of the envelope in terms of teaching methods.
To achieve this, the district education bureau has trained a total of 123 middle and primary school teachers since last year, when eight schools were earmarked as the first batch of “innovation education bases”, or cradle of inventors. So far more than 400 students have received various kinds of specialist training.
