Fire drills at EV charging stations to raise vigilance
The Luohu Development and Reform Bureau and Shenzhen Xili Science and Technology Company co-organized work safety trainings and emergency drills at a charging station of Buji Agricultural Products Wholesale Market in Shenzhen on June 28.
Shenzhen has actively promoted new-energy cars in recent years and has replaced all of its buses and taxis with new-energy vehicles. According to the 'Shenzhen Blue' sustainable action plan, all special vehicles of the city, such as logistics trucks and sanitation vehicles, will be propelled by electricity in the future.
But safety issues, particularly fires caused by battery charging, have gained widespread attention of citizens.
The emergency drills stimulated fires caused by the charging of electric vehicles, which was spotted by the on-site personnel. Then the contingency plan was initiated with the fire squads and medical assistance teams informed instantly. Then the emergency rescue work was unfolded on several fronts at the same time with a focus on saving people’s lives and property while putting out fires.
The drills lasted for about one hour, which helped to coordinate efforts of all relevant departments and exposed some problems. All departments involved are encouraged to raise their vigilance and nip the potential dangers in the bud.
Nowadays, Luohu has more than 500 electric vehicle charging stations managed by various parties. The district government vows to strengthen its supervision of these charging stations and make better plans for the construction of new charging stations to not only meet the rising demands of electric vehicle users, but more importantly to ensure that all of the charging stations are appropriately built, used, and managed and strictly supervised. Once safety accidents happen, the responsible supervisors and managers of the charging stations will be held accountable.
