Luohu to build canteen for the elderly
The Luohu government will soon issue a plan to provide catering services to the elderly, and a special canteen for them is expected to open within the year, the Shenzhen Evening News reported.
A survey in 2017 showed that 571 older people in the district’s Dongle community were in urgent need of food services, which accounted for 42 percent of the respondents.
Having spent decades in the army, 83-year-old Qi Xuemin said she didn’t know how to cook and had to count on her nanny. If her nanny went on leave, she had to rely on her son or order food delivery.
Social worker Li Yinqin told the newspaper that some older people even ask their grandchildren who are working in Beijing to order food online for them.
Officials from the district’s civil affairs bureau revealed that a relevant survey is underway and the canteen, which isspecially designed for the elderly could open within the year.
